Core Psych, PLLC is an integrative mental health clinic, with psychology and psychiatry at the core of our services. Our clinic provides a safe, relaxing, and culturally competent environment. Our mental health services include psychiatric and psychological assessments, testing, and interventions. We also provide treatment for substance use disorders (addiction) and those in early recovery. We accept most private and state insurance companies.

Meet the Team:
Shady Shebak, MD
Psychiatrist & Medical Director
Shady Shebak graduated from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 2008 with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Biology. He went to medical school at the American University of the Caribbean and received his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in 2013.
He trained in general psychiatry at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and Michigan State University, with year training in child and adolescent psychiatry. He has extensive inpatient and outpatient clinical psychiatric training and experience.
His career interests include treating adolescents and young adults, mood disorders, and personality disorders. He is also interested in culturally appropriate mental health care and education and is involved in several grassroots and academic efforts to teach and provide such services.
He has presented at several regional and national academic conferences on topics including, but not limited to cultural competency, narrative learning theory, and medical education.
Henda Albiatty, MPH
Chief Administrative Officer & HIPAA Specialist
Henda Albiatty graduated from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 2010 with a degree in Biology. She then began her Masters in Public Health (MPH) at Michigan State University, graduating with an MPH in 2013.
Henda has worked on research projects ranging from emergency psychiatry to perceptions of depression in the Arab American community. She has presented at regional and national conferences.
Her interests include streamlining health care, expanding health care access, and has focused much of her energy on mental health services.
Samar Hannawi, MA, TLLP
Samar Hannawi graduated from Wayne State University with a Bachelor's of Arts in Psychology. She then attended the Michigan School of Psychology, where she earned her Master's of Arts in Clinical Psychology.
Samar uses a client-focused approach when she provides group and individual therapy to adolescents and adults. Samar has extensive training in psychological testing, psychological diagnoses, and various psychotherapeutic modalities.
Marriage & Family Therapist
Erin Kalka graduated from Grand Valley State University in 2000 with a Bachelor's in Social Work. She began her career working with multicultural and underserved settings, including; pregnant/parenting teenagers, foster care children, and general adult mental healthcare. She also has experience working with patients who have autism spectrum disorders.
Erin began a master’s program for Marriage and Family Therapy in 2015. She graduated from Northcentral University in August 2019 with a Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy, specializing in General Family Therapy. She enjoys working with diverse, marginalized, and underserved populations, providing collaborative therapy services for individuals, couples, and families using a systemic lens. Erin has been working for almost two years within a clinical setting, and has been employed with Core Psych, PLLC since May 2019. Common therapy models Erin enjoys using while working with her clients include; collaborative therapy, narrative therapy, and solution-focused therapy. She strongly believes in adjusting the therapy model to fit the unique needs of each client and promoting client autonomy in decision making. Erin also heads the Core Psych, PLLC substance and addictions therapy program.
Limited License Marriage and Family Therapist
After obtaining her Bachelor's of Arts in psychology, she attended Northcentral University for a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy. Interested in continuing her studies in working with minority women and families, she is pursuing her Doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy.
Her passion is providing mental health services to African American and minority teens, women, couples, and blended families. With a vast background in Child Welfare, trauma, training, and experience in several therapeutic settings, she works to provide culturally competent person-centered therapy services to her clients.
